Antique tribal silver bracelet belonging to the traditional jewellery worn by Rashaida and Beni Amer communities of the Red Sea region, between eastern Sudan and Eritrea.
The bracelet is constructed from two silver half-shells joined by a longitudinal hinge and secured with a removable pin, a characteristic fastening system used for bracelets intended to be worn tightly on the forearm.
The decoration consists of hammered silver cabochons set within symmetrical panels framed by applied diamond-shaped elements, small granulations and bands of simple filigree. The composition is bordered by twisted wires and thick hammered rims.
Such bracelets formed part of the ceremonial and everyday adornment of women from nomadic Red Sea communities.
