Silver Bedouin amulet - hirz - from OMAN, Koran box from Nizwa, Middle east
Old silver hirz necklace from Nizwa Oman with raised golden accents and fringe dangles in very good condition. The container cap is chained to the body and fits perfectly.
Koran boxes or Hirz in Arabic are typically amulets that contain a verse from the Koran.
Koran boxes are talismans. In cases of illness, they are considered to be profilactics.
A hirz necklace was worn all over Oman by children and adults alike.
